Healthcare is forced to deliver better care to increase of life expectancy as well as of quality of life. This session is aimed to discuss how the adoption of ehealth in healthcare policies and organizations can help into keep a sustainable healthcare system maintaining the standards of quality. It is a amatter of fact that pervasive computing is penetrating in healthcare, and the Healthcare business is betting for a high increase in ICT expenditures. eHealth is being accepted more and more by the healthcare providers. However eHealth has still a very low presence in the undergraduate curricula in Health Sciences. The efforts done from scientific and HC professional associations and also Universities crash with official recognition by Education Ministers. There is a clear need to review in deep the curricula of Health Sciences Studies to include eHealth as a transversal discipline and fight for an official recognition and accreditation, including professional positions in the health policies. Meanwhile, because eHealth is becoming a substantial part of healthcare, it is necessary to organize plans for training and capacitating the HC professionals who face the implementation of eHealth in their daily work.

Over the next 10 years we will build and deploy more ICT into the health system than in the entire previous history of our discipline. These systems are going to be larger in scope, more complex, and move from regional to national, and possibly supranational scale. Yet we are in all likelihood at roughly the same place in the technology maturity curve as the aviation industry was in the 1950s. There is still a long road to be traveled before we can construct information systems that we know are certifiably safe in the clinical workplace, and we can train clinical hands that are certified safe to use them. Because of these challenges, some nations have struggled with bottom-up or top-down approaches to their national e-health infrastructure, and this talk will explore the benefits of a 'middle out' approach to achieving national goals.
