The objective of the worshop is discuss current and future perspectives of EU and US cooperation on eHealth matters. The worshop will provide the opportunity to review and present on going cooperation, including those developed in the context of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation surrounding e-Health signed in Washington on 17 December 2010 by the European Commission Vice-President Nellie Kroes and Katleen Sebelius (Secretary of State for Health and Human services).

The Region of Southern Denmark is acknowledged as an international hub and a national living lab for Health IT, Active Living and Healthy Ageing. Companies, researchers and end users participate in dynamic private public collaborations to innovate new products and solutions to assist or automate tasks in the healthcare and welfare sector. Hospitals and municipalities test and implement new solutions, and the region is ranking among the best in the world when it comes to telemedicine and homecare. The goal is to create new commercial opportunities for companies and to heighten the quality of life for citizens and staff.

RFID and RTLS in Healthcare Symposium

This symposium will focus on the many applications of RFID and RTLS technologies currently deployed within different sectors of the healthcare industry, and will present the technical and business essentials needed for successful implementation. The experienced faculty will walk through deployments which have helped improve patient safety; provided real time visibility of high-value mobile assets; and have improved processes that lead to operating efficiencies and a higher quality of services delivered to the patient.

The Economics of Interoperability

Moderated by HL7 International, this panel will discuss the business value of healthcare IT standards. Speakers will provide the background and supporting data that establish the ability of standardization to reduce direct and indirect costs, while improving healthcare quality and access. The evidence is broad and diverse, representing data accumulated from research in economically-developed communities and emerging nations.

HL7 International is a non-profit standards developing organization that creates the world’s most widely-adopted healthcare standards, addressing needs of research, care delivery, and public health.
