Mr  Dave GaretsPresident & CEOHIMSS AnalyticsExecutive Vice PresidentHIMSSUSAMr  Thomas W SmithChief Information OfficerNorthShore University HealthSystemUSA
HIMSS Analytics created the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) to provide a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record (EMR) systems for acute care delivery environments. Approximately 26.5 percent of American hospitals have achieved EMRAM levels of Stage 3 or higher, but only 1.0 percent of hospitals have achieved Stage 6 capabilities. Stage 6 hospitals have achieved a significant advancement in their IT capabilities that positions them to successfully address many of the upcoming industry transformations, including pay for performance, consumer-focused care, and healthcare reform initiatives. In this presentation, Dave Garets, President and CEO of HIMSS Analytics, will explain EMRAM and discuss not only lessons learned from six healthcare organizations that have attained Stage 6, but also what it took them to get there and what benefits they have realized as a result. Thomas W Smith, Vice President and CIO of NorthShore University HealthSystem (NUH) will then discuss Stage 6 adoption in practice at UNH.
