Dr. Gordana Zivcec-Kalan, MD,
Specialist General Practitioner,
Slovenia
Dr. Gordana Zivcec-Kalan has been working as a Specialist General Practitioner in a rural area of Slovenia for 20 years. As an assistant at the Department of Family Medicine Ljubljana, she is preparing her PhD and tutors young colleagues in vocational training of Family Medicine. The topic of Dr. Kalan’s research is the influence of workload on performance in the daily work of a general practitioner. During her professional development, Dr. Kalan has been involved in many project was also president of Primary Care Committee at Medical Chamber of Slovenia. Dr. Kalan’s special interest is the electronic chart within the context of data collecting for preparing a more efficient working environment.
Dr. Dorjan Marušič, MD, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia
Dr. Dorjan Marušič served his internship and specialized in internal medicine at the General Hospital of Izola, University Hospital Groningen and University Clinic for Internal Medicine in Ljubljana. In May 2000, Dr. Marušič was appointed Medical Manager of the General Hospital of Izola. In 2004, he became a Master Candidate in the field of Management of Non-profit Organizations at the Graduate School of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana. He is the Head Expert of the Association of Coronary Diseases of Istria in Slovenia and deputy president of the Experts’ Council of the Associations and Clubs of Coronary Diseases. Dr. Marušič is also a member of the Slovenian Association of Urgent Medicine, Slovenian Association of Intensive Care and Association of Cardiologists of Slovenia. He was appointed State Secretary at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia in December 2004.

Dr. Mark Leavitt is Chair of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT). Leavitt practiced Internal Medicine for 10 years before moving into healthcare IT. He founded and led MedicaLogic, a pioneering ambulatory EHR company, for 17 years. He served as VP for Clinical Initiatives at GE Healthcare Systems after their acquisition of MedicaLogic in 2002, then moved to HIMSS in 2003 to serve as Chief Medical Officer. He is currently on leave from that position while chairing CCHIT. He is a fellow of HIMSS and ACMI.
Dr. Georges De Moor, MD, PhD,

President of the European Institute for Health Records (EuroRec)
As President of RAMIT (Research in Medical Informatics and Telematics), Dr. Georges De Moor has been involved in over 70 European and International Research and Development Projects as well as in Standardisation activities. For seven years, he acted as Founding Chairman of CEN/TC251, the official Technical Committee on Standardisation in Health Informatics in Europe. He has edited seven books related to ICT in Health Informatics and published over 200 articles.

Moderator: Hilary Bowker, Former CNN anchor for Europe, Moderator in the WSIS
Ms Bowker brings twenty years of experience in journalism and in interactive and engaging discussions with speakers and their audiences. She has chaired debates between world leaders in politics, diplomacy, business, the arts, academia, industry, the military and science.
Ms Bowker has anchored prime time newscasts, special reports and live coverage of news events and issues including politics, economics, business and finance. Key themes included: the run up to European Monetary Union, the emergence and impact of globalisation, events in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Dr. Lynette Moretlo Molefi, Director Telemedicine Lead Programme, Medical Research Council of South Africa
Dr Molefi is a dynamic medical practitioner who has used her undergraduate training as a platform to embark on her interest in telemedicine. She has been one of the few pioneers of telemedicine in South Africa and Africa.
Her representation at various levels of government and non governmental organizations has added credibility to the unit. She is a versatile entrepreneur and experienced business executive. Dr Molefi has a specific interest in Public Private Partnerships (PPP’s) and is currently the project leader to pilot a public private partnership in Telemedicine.
Dr. Peter Drury, PhD, Health for Emerging Markets, Cisco Systems, England
Dr. Drury was the former Head of Information Policy, Department of Health in England. Drs Peter Drury and Bruce Dahlman have worked together with IHN, CISCO Philanthropy and the UK NHS Connecting for Health to put together an exciting implementation of creative knowledge management implementing eHealth solutions in rural Kenya.

Dr. Jean-Claude Healy (Paris University) was Professor of Biophysics and Medical informatics in French University Hospitals for 30 years. He joined the EU DG INFSO in 1995 as Head of Division of the eHealth Unit in Brussels. In 2004 he was seconded to World Health Organization Headquarters (Geneva) as Director in charge of the WHO eHealth strategy. He is author of more than 250 scientific publications and additional administrative documents for the eHealth Resolution (WHA 58 28), WHO eHealth Action Plan, the EU-WHO eHealth report for the World Summit on Information Society etc.

Health Sciences Professor, State University of New York, Buffalo, USA
Dr. Werner Cuesters studied medicine, neuro-psychiatry, informatics and knowledge engineering in Belgium. Since 1993, he has been involved in numerous national and European research projects in the areas of Electronic Health Records, Natural Language Understanding and Ontology. He was previously Executive Director of the European Centre for Ontological Research at Saarland University, Germany. Currently he is also Director of the Ontology Research Group of the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, and coordinator of Bioinformatics for the Health Science Faculties at the University of Buffalo.

Dr. Martin vanRijn studied economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. From 1980 to 2000 he worked in several positions at the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment. From 2000 to 2003 he was Director-General Management and Personnel Policy at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. He has held his current position since March 2003. He is responsible for the national healthcare insurance system, the policy and financing of hospitals, primary care and medicines policy. He is also responsible for the development of information and communication technology in healthcare.

Earl Mardle,

Earl Mardle has a strong focus on the ethical issues raised by globalisation. Most of his work in the last decade has focused on providing access to information technologies to underserved or specifically excluded communities. Since 2000 he has taught eCommerce at a variety of educational institutions in Sydney, Australia and is the Information Manager and Project Support for the Stockholm Challenge Award. He is extremely well informed on the wide diversity of applications for ICT in contexts from the largest cities to the smallest off-grid villages.

She has been a consultant to the Ministry of Health in Poland, to The World Bank for the Preparation Mission for Implementation of the Mexican Health Reform, a guest lecturer at The Braun School of Public Health and a Senior Research Fellow, JDC at The Brookdale Institute.

Dr Shalev obtained her MD from The School of Medicine, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva, Israel. She received her Family Practice Residency training at Kaplan Hospital. In 1993, she received a Specialty Certification in family Medicine and an MA in Public Health Administration from Clark University. She has also held a Fellowship in Medical Informatics at the School of Medicine, Johns-Hopkins University.

Dr. Majid Altuwaijri serves as President of the Saudi Association for Health Informatics and since 1997 he is the Executive Director, Information Systems & Informatics Division of the Saudi Arabian National Guard-Health Affairs. Between 1991 and 1995 he held various teaching positions at the King Khaled Military Academy in Riyadh; at the King Saud University in Riyadh; and at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, USA. His many interests include E-Health, Data Modeling, E-Business, Clinical Information systems, Electronic Health Records, Knowledge Management and ERP Solutions.

Dr. Mats Larson, MD has more than 30 years experience in healthcare - most of this time as a Hospital Manager in Sweden. In addition, he also established Carelink - an NGO to promote the adoption of IT in Swedish Care. His current position is Business Development Director for Oracle in the Nordic countries as well as being acting President of European Health Telematics Association (EHTEL)

Dr. Nolwazi Mbananga has a PhD in Sociology specializing in Consumer Health Informatics. She is the Executive Manager Informatics and Knowledge Management at the Medical Research Council of South Africa. Dr. Mbananga is the Chief Executive Director of a Non Profit Organisation that she has established. This organization is called :The South African National Centre for Informatics, Knowledge Management and Knowledge Economy (SANCIKMKE) www.sancikmke.org.za
Dr. Mbananga is working towards establishing a National Knowledge Management System which will index the knowledge of South Africa leading to a South African National Knowledge Bank. Dr. Mbananga has published a number of papers in scientific and non scientific journals. Dr. Mbananga has been involved in the development of Health Informatics education in South Africa. She played an important role in facilitating collaborations between South African universities and other universities in Britain and USA in Health Informatics Education.
